Keep safe as we work in the new normal with a range of PPE available now from LEW.

Following changes in government advice in England, some workplaces and businesses are starting to re-open and are working to make sure they are covid secure. To help those who are working we have stocked a range of Personal Protective Equipment at our branches.

Wash your hands regularly

‘You should wash your hands regularly, particularly after blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing, and when leaving the property. Where facilities to wash hands are not available, hand sanitiser should be used, and you should carry this with you at all times.’
Gov.uk – Social distancing in the workplace during coronavirus (COVID-19): sector guidance

From day one washing hands and keeping them clean has been a key prevention of the spread of coronavirus. This still stands and you are advised to wash your hands regularly according to the Government Sector Guidance.

Keeping your hands clean is essential. So make Anti-Bac Hand Cleanser Gel or any high alcohol hand sansister part of your tool kit.

Clean and disinfect

‘You should be particularly strict about hand washing and respiratory hygiene. Once the work is completed, you should tell the customer which surfaces and areas you have come in to contact with. However, you should carry out this cleaning yourself prior to leaving’
Gov.uk – Social distancing in the workplace during coronavirus (COVID-19): sector guidance

Touching surfaces can spread the virus and there is a risk. Think about all the surfaces you might encounter on the job. Do you share tools? Do you use a company/shared van? Even phones & tablets can be surfaces which are used multiple times a day. The spread of coronavirus can be reduced by keeping surfaces cleaned and disinfected. Simple high alcohol formula Disinfectant Surface Wipes will do the job as well as standard cleaning products.

Sector guidance from the Government Working in people’s homes as a tradesperson, cleaner or nanny advises that you inform your customer which surfaces you have worked around and that you clean them before leaving. A tip is to take a notepad to your job and jot down which surfaces you’ve touched during your work, or take photos on your phone. That way you can work down the list and be sure to clean properly after yourself and present a list to your customer.

Work safe on site

If you want to reassure customers and reduce the risk of exposure to yourself and others while working, use simple but effective PPE. FFP2 masks (or N95 masks) are recommended by the World Health Organisation. The UK Government has advised face coverings should be worn, if possible, in enclosed spaces where social distancing is difficult, particularly in crowded indoor areas. However, social distancing should always be maintained where possible as wearing face masks should not replace this.

Disposable Nitrile Gloves are also good in reducing skin exposure to surfaces. They are useful in partially in unfamiliar environments such as construction sites and new properties. Customers will take comfort in you showing a proactive measure in reducing the spread in homes.

Having a Face Shield also helps reduce exposure to your face. These shields include a wide visor for lateral protection, complete 180° field of vision, reusable design, and fully-adjustable, comfort-fit for any head shape. Making them a perfect solution to working on site and keeping safe.

Remember gloves, masks and shields are here to help reduce the risk, but avoid getting into a false sense of security and keep washing hands and keep social distancing. Self-isolate if you have any Coronavirus Symptoms.
